McLemore to present Martin Luther King Day lecture Jan. 19 at Luther
Leslie Burl McLemore, Ph. D., professor of political science at Jackson State University in Mississippi, will present Luther College’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day Lecture on Monday, Jan. 19, 7:30 p.m. in the Main Hall of the Luther Center for Faith and Life.
Part of the college’s celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the lecture is open to the public with no charge for admission. McLemore will also speak at the college’s 10:30 a.m. chapel service in the Center for Faith and Life on Jan. 20. Read more
Luther seeks public comment for accrediting review
Luther College is seeking comments from the public about the College in preparation for its periodic evaluation by its regional accrediting agency.
The college will undergo a comprehensive evaluation visit April 6-8 by a team representing The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Luther College has been accredited by the Commission since 1915. Read more
Luther College students begin $10K for Kiva campaign
Brett Johnson, assistant professor of sociology at Luther College, and a group of Luther students have launched a $10K for Kiva campaign to assist developing communities in Third World countries. The Luther group plans to raise $10,000 from a variety of campus and off-campus sources by mid-February to loan through Kiva.org.
The $10K for Kiva campaign will both assist a poor community and educate the Luther community about micro lending. As the loans are repaid, the $10K for Kiva project will reloan the money, allowing the program to continue for years to come. Read more
Luther College announces fall 2008 Dean’s List
William Craft, Luther College vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college, announces 841 Luther students were named to the 2008 fall semester Dean's List.
There were 211 seniors named to the Dean’s List, 209 juniors, 217 sophomores and 203 first year students. Read more
Luther College hosts Very Special Arts Iowa Traveling Art Exhibit
Luther College will display a traveling art exhibit from Very Special Arts Iowa Jan. 15 - March 19. Located on the main floor of Preus Library on the Luther campus, the exhibit is open to the public with no charge for admission.
Very Special Arts Iowa is part of an affiliate network associated with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Founded in 1977 by Jacqueline Merritt of Iowa City, it is the only organization in Iowa devoted entirely to artists with disabilities and annually provides art experiences for more than 30,000 disabled children and adults.
